Moncton, August 24, 2016—This morning, the CHU Dumont Foundation announced the second edition of The Drive, a fundraising event that caters to car enthusiasts in the region.

Once again this year, funds raised through The Drive will go toward the purchase of a da Vinci Surgical System for the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. The da Vinci system offers a number of safety features, and will allow surgeons to perform less invasive procedures as efficiently as with conventional methods. Surgeries performed using this system will require smaller incisions, resulting in less bleeding, reduced post-operative pain and shorter hospitalization times.

“The Drive will give car enthusiasts the opportunity to drive together for a full day while helping to improve health care services offered at our Hospital Centre. Participants will get the VIP treatment and several surprise experiences will be revealed on the day of the event”, says Dr. Luc Boudreau, Urologist at the CHU Dumont University Hospital Centre and co-chair of The Drive’s Organizing Committee.

The Drive 2016 is sponsored by Lounsbury Group, which owns and operates BMW Moncton, Audi Moncton and Corvette Moncton.

“We are proud to co-sponsor this fundraising event in support of the health and wellness of our community,” says Mr. Chris Bacich, Executive Director of BMW Moncton. “Charity events like The Drive help fund important projects at our Hospital Centre. The acquisition of the da Vinci system will contribute significantly to improving patient care, and we are very pleased to be a part of this initiative.”

The Drive was created in 2015 after a committee of volunteers approached the Foundation with an idea and a plan. A few months later, the first edition of The Drive was launched. Last year, fifty participants raised more than $28,000.

”This event became a reality thanks to a group of people who wanted to give back to their community. They are vital partners in assuring the well-being of our patients, and we are very grateful to them,” says Jacques B. LeBlanc, President and CEO of the CHU Dumont Foundation.

Those interested in registering for The Drive can do so until August 31 by contacting the CHU Dumont Foundation. The registration fee is $1,500 per vehicle. Participants also have the option of borrowing a vehicle for the day, in which case the registration fee would be $2,000.

The event will begin with breakfast at Audi Moncton. Participants will then hit the road to various unique and exclusive destinations. The day will conclude at around 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by a dinner.
