Moncton, October 13, 2020 – The CHU Dumont Foundation’s Electrifying Night Run, presented by Dooly’s, was once again a remarkable success, raising more than $28,000 to benefit patients of the Breast Health Centre.

The funds raised this year will mainly be used to finance a cardio-oncology project which includes the purchase of an cardiac ultrasound system and an adapted stretcher.

Dr. Rina Lee, cardiologist at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, explains the importance of this acquisition.

“The echocardiogram will be used to regularly monitor oncology patients to diagnose any cardiac complications brought on by oncology treatments. The echocardiogram can identify cardiac complications, sometimes even at a preclinical stage, that is before symptoms appear.  This allows for prompt treatment and can prevent long-term cardiac complications.”

Every year, around 500 participants gather for this event to walk or run the neighborhood surrounding the Breast Health Centre.  For this 5th edition, however, as Public Health guidelines do not allow large gatherings, all participants were invited to do their race individually or with friends and family between October 5 and 12.

Dr. Jocelyne Hébert is a surgeon at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre and a member of the Run’s organizing committee.

“Like everything else in 2020, we had to rethink the format of the event.  We are very fortunate to be able to count on the continued support of people in our community.  Both the number of participants and the amount raised far exceeded our expectations.  The committee would like to thank all of our generous sponsors as well as all who participated.”

The Electrifying Night Run is open to both pros and beginners.  Participants have the option of walking or running – or a combination of the two.

The Breast Health Centre in Moncton offers a complete and comprehensive breast health program, including prevention, screening and early diagnostic testing to every woman who is referred.  Thanks to the integrated approach practised at the Breast Health Centre, women benefit from the services and care of a multidisciplinary team all under one roof in an innovative and integrated environment.
