A better healthcare
experience, together

Moncton, February 11, 2020 — The CHU Dumont Foundation’s Valentine’s Day Gala presented by the National Bank celebrated its 25th anniversary on February 8. A record-breaking $127,000 cheque was unveiled in front of the 450 attendees.

The chair of the CHU Dumont Foundation’s Board of Directors, Lise Caissie, feels grateful for the support of the public that, year after year actively participates in the success of the Foundation’s initiatives, allowing it to invest in the improvement of care and health services offered at the Dr.-George-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.

“It is the unconditional support of the community and our partners that allows us to succeed in fulfilling our mandate. This 25th edition is no exception. The extreme generosity shown by our partners, sponsors and participants will allow us to support other important projects for the many departments of our hospital centre. Whether it’s for pediatrics, surgery, geriatrics, microbiology, cardiology, among others, our team works hard to raise funds to improve the experience of our patients and their loved ones.”

Since its beginning, the Valentine’s Day Gala has helped raise more than $1.5 million for the Dr.-George-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre and its many departments.

Réjean Després, Vice President, Personal and Commercial Banking, Atlantic at National Bank, is delighted with the success of the event. “National Bank has been a proud sponsor of the Valentine’s Day Gala since the beginning. One of our organization’s priorities is to actively support the economic and social development of the communities we serve—and any good community must allow access to quality health care services. That’s why we’re proud of our partnership with the CHU Dumont Foundation.”

Tree of Hope

The Tree of Hope’s mission is to improve comfort and care for cancer patients through the purchase of specialized equipment for the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center, and by offering advanced training opportunities for specialized oncology teams here in New Brunswick.

Projects funded are based on the needs identified at the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center and in other Dumont UHC departments offering a continuum in oncology care, for example, the Mgr.-Henri-Cormier Lodge. Each year, projects are proposed and executed based on needs expressed and funds raised throughout the province and elsewhere.

Over the years, this campaign has also enabled the construction of the Mgr.-Henri-Cormier Lodge, where close to 2,000 people are accommodated free of charge each year. This number includes patients from outside the Greater Moncton area requiring cancer treatment not available in their region, as well as a companion. Funds raised each year also help ensure major maintenance projects at the Lodge. The Tree of Hope campaign also helps to support cancer research efforts undertaken here in New Brunswick.
