The Best Teams (CHU Dumont Foundation)
Record number of cyclists registered for the 2017 Tour of HopeThe 2017 edition of the Tour of Hope will be the largest since the event’s inception in 2011. A total of 61 cyclists have registered for the event, which will take place from July 27th to 30th.
“We are thrilled at the number of registrations,” says Dr. Carole Williams, co-chair of the event and Gynecologist-Oncologist at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre. “The cyclists who take part in the 2017 edition of the event will quickly learn how gratifying it is to participate in an event that brings people together.”
The Tour of Hope is a fundraising event in support of the Tree of Hope Campaign. Funds raised will be used to: purchase specialized equipment; train highly specialized teams at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre; fund cancer research; purchase equipment for satellite units in northern New Brunswick; refurbish the Mgr.-Henri-Cormier Lodge; and to raise awareness about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Réjean Després, co-chair of the Tour of Hope 2017 and Vice President, Personal and Commercial Banking, Atlantic Region for National Bank, is also pleased with the number of registered cyclists.
“Having participated in the event myself last year, I can tell you first-hand that cyclists will experience an incredible adventure. Not only is it a physical challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to meet extraordinary people who are motivated to make a difference in their community. When you know that the funds raised stay here, in New Brunswick, and that they are used to improve cancer treatment, research, and patient comfort, you quickly forget how physically difficult it is and you just appreciate how fortunate you are to be able to take on this kind of challenge.”
Participants in the 2017 Tour of Hope will once again try to raise over $80,000 for the Tree of Hope Campaign. To support a cyclist, please visit: www.tourespoir.com.
This year’s Golf Classic a must-play eventOne lucky participant will win a travel package worth $6,000!
The CHU Dumont Foundation is pleased to announce the return of the annual Scotiabank-BMW Moncton Golf Classic. The event will take place at the Fox Creek Golf Club in Dieppe on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Last year, the Golf Classic raised $80,000 for the improvement of services offered at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.
This year, one lucky participant will win a travel package worth $6,000, including two tickets to attend a Formula E race in Montreal, airfare, hotel, access to the VIP lounge, a ride around the track in a BMW i8, a tour of the pit area, and more!
“The CHU Dumont Golf Classic is a must-play event for golfers who want to support our hospital,” explains Chris Bacich, General Manager at BMW Moncton. “Anyone who cares about improving the quality of patient care is invited to join us for this fun event!”
René Collette, Chairman of the CHU Dumont Foundation’s Board of Directors, says the Foundation is very excited about the level of support the Scotiabank-BMW Moncton Golf Classic has received from the community.
“We are extremely thankful for the support we have received for our various fundraising activities, and I think the Golf Classic is a prime example. For 16 years, this event has been bringing people together to have a fun day in great company while supporting a great cause. We are always thrilled to welcome back past participants, and we hope to see new teams on the course this year.”
For Dr. Janice Cormier, family doctor at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, the positive impact of the Golf Classic is evident.
“The medical team is very appreciative of the community’s support in improving care at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. The participation of the public and the business community in the CHU Dumont Foundation Golf Classic is proof that people want to do their part to ensure we offer the best care possible to patients at our hospital. I can tell you firsthand that the funds raised will make a significant difference at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.”
Again this year, the Golf Classic will be played Texas Scramble style, with four players per team. Registration costs $1,800 per team of four, including cart rental, a delicious steak and lobster dinner, and a few surprises throughout the day. The number of teams is limited.
